Mold Abatement

The introduction of a water source can cause mold to quickly spread throughout a building, sometimes in as little as 48 hours. The primary hazard of mold is that it releases spores into the air, which contains allergens and mycotoxins that primarily cause respiratory symptoms. However, long-term exposure to these spores can also cause more general symptoms as a result of neurological damage. ARM Environmental Services has extensive experience and qualifications in the abatement and remediation of mold.

Mold Treatment

Treating a building for mold infestation requires a two-pronged approach consisting of abatement and remediation. Abatement is the removal of existing mold, generally by cleaning surfaces that have mold or removing mold-infested items from the building. Abatement also includes the installation of air filters to prevent spores from entering inhabited areas of the building. Remediation is the process of eliminating factors that are conducive to the growth of mold, which primarily includes the elimination of water sources. The use of negative air pressure is also a common technique for preventing mold from spreading.

Trained and Certified in Mold Abatement and Remediation

ARM staff members who work in mold abatement and remediation must maintain EPA-accredited training and licenses in this area. This training includes air monitoring for mold in addition to asbestos and lead-based paint. These staff members must also maintain training in mold and microbial contaminant testing and assessment. Furthermore, all ARM field technicians have OSHA-compliant training in handling hazardous materials.

ARM maintains several certifications related to mold abatement and remediation. For example, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognizes ARM as a Certified Mold Inspector. ARM is also an On-Call Environmental Contractor for the South Carolina Department of Transportation and an Approved Environmental Consultant for South Carolina.
