- Who we are
Vapor intrusion is the migration of volatile chemicals from the subsurface soil and groundwater into the indoor air of overlying buildings. Common causes of vapor intrusion include organic chemicals from dry cleaners, leaks from underground fuel tanks and industrial degreasers. ARM Environmental Services has extensive qualifications for assessing many types of buildings for soil vapor intrusion.
Buildings can have poor air quality when they are located on or in the vicinity of property with contaminated soil or groundwater. These contaminants can undergo chemical reactions that produce various gases that can infiltrate a building from the soil beneath it. It’s for this reason that environmental regulators have recently begun to widen their focus from contaminated soil and groundwater to its possible effects on indoor air.
Performing soil vapor assessment in an efficient, cost-effective manner requires significant pre-planning. Strategic planning helps avoid the costs and delays in assessment that often occur when conducting multiple mobilizations. It also reduces the risk that our clients will be held responsible for air contaminants not caused by subsurface conditions onsite. ARM has the capability and experience needed to meet the demands of environmental regulators, attorneys, and lenders.
ARM’s soil vapor assessment services range from simple environmental screenings to complex investigations of subsurface conditions, including the following:
ARM is also highly experienced with state-specific projects that involve soil vapor assessments, especially for South Carolina (SC) and North Carolina (NC). ARM also has various government credentials related to soil vapor assessments, including the following:
ARM is based in Columbia, SC, and we also have a branch office in Charlotte, NC. We have been providing our clients with comprehensive environmental services since we were founded in 1991. Contact us today to find out how we can help you with your soil vapor assessment.
"We hired ARM to provide Asbestos Survey and Air Monitoring services on over 80 residential buildings as part of a neighborhood improvement project. Each staff person was extremely helpful and exhibited a high degree of integrity in every facet of the project. Their technical knowledge was very helpful when unforeseen conditions arose, and helped us to complete the project on schedule."
